Dr. Heather Martens

Dr. Heather Martens is a licensed clinical psychologist, specialized in health psychology and neuropsychology, and founder of East West Operational Stress, Injury and Resilience (EWOSIR). Dr. Martens is licensed in both California and Virginia.

Dr. Martens earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Alliant International University, San Diego and completed training at Horizon Health, UCSD Medical Center, Scripps, USC+LAC Women’s and Children’s hospital and Residency and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric and Adult Neuropsychological Assessment and Rehabilitation at Stan Cassidy Center for Brain and Spinal Cord Injury.

Dr. Martens’ theoretical orientation is assessment-guided and evidence-based, drawing heavily from cognitive-behavioral (CBT), neurocognitive, somatic and mindfulness-based approaches to therapy while incorporating biofeedback and neurofeedback into her practice. Her primary areas of interest include stress and trauma related injury, mind-body conditions including chronic pain, autoimmune, cancer, neuro-cognitive conditions and brain injury. She provides a full range of assessment and psychotherapeutic treatment for acute, post and complex traumatic stress, anxiety, depression and range of other conditions.

In addition, she has 8 years of experience working with the Department of Defense, providing a full range of stress management and clinical services for military and their families, in the United States and assigned to regions throughout the world. Dr. Martens is a military spouse, married to an active-duty military member with over 16 years of service.

Dr. Stephanie Kann

Dr. Stephanie Kann earned her Doctorate in Psychology, in 2004, from Alliant International University in Los Angeles, CA. She is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in California, New York, and Virginia and founder of East West Operational Stress, Injury and Resilience (EWOSIR).

Dr. Kann has successfully worked in both clinical and academic settings and is passionate about supervision and training.  Her clinical interests include couples therapy, trauma focused therapy, family dynamics, and traditional individual psychotherapy. She is well versed in research, developing and planning presentations including evaluative reports and wellness retreats and workshops. She uses a collaborative approach to therapy focusing on the therapeutic relationship to facilitate positive change in clients seeking better emotional and social functioning to improve their overall quality of life.

Her first post-doctoral assignment was abroad, in England, working on psychological assessments, forensics, and psychological treatment for clergy throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Western Europe in support of the UK Council of Bishops and the Catholic Church in the United Kingdom.

In addition, she has over a decade of experience with the Department of Defense. She provided a full range of psychological services including analysis and assessing suitability, resilience and suicidality. She has worked directly for the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Submarine Special Operations in Saratoga Springs, NY; the U.S. Naval Hospital in Camp Pendleton, CA, and in Department of Defense Headquarters in the intelligence community in Washington, DC. Her work, in both academic and clinical settings, allowed her to work with populations from all over the world.

Her education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies, both from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA, as well as the aforementioned Doctorate in Psychology.
